As a supporter of the International Myeloma Foundation and your constituent, I am writing to request your support for H.R. 830/S.1375, the Help Ensure Lower Patient (HELP) Copays Act.
As you may know, many patients, receive financial help in the form of copay assistance in order to afford their medications. Copay accumulator programs/accumulator adjustment programs allow insurers and PBMS not to count the funds from these assistance programs towards the patient’s deductible or out of pocket maximum. This increases the amount a patient must pay on their own and shift the costs of the drugs to patients, which can be unaffordable due to the high cost of prescription drugs. Copay accumulator programs can prevent cancer patients from receiving the care they need.
Please co-sponsor H.R. 830/S. 1375, The HELP Copays Act which prohibits accumulator adjuster programs. The HELP Copays Act puts a stop to copay accumulator programs and ensures that patients are not the ones facing this financial burden.
